National Champions

Wow!! What a game! Actually, I thought they were in control for almost the whole game. People kept talking about the fact that Carolina would need to play as a team in order to win. That they would have to be "on". Nobody seemed to consider that maybe Illinois would not have their best night. Nobody thought that maybe there was even more pressure on the Illini than on Carolina. Illinois came extremely close to having a perfect season and, hey, they were supposed to win the national championship. Nobody seemed to think that maybe they would not shoot well or make stupid mistakes, but they did. And Carolina made them pay.

Carolina played an awesome game. Sean May was unstoppable and Felton played as well as he has all year. For a team that doesn't play defense, they certainly disrupted Illiois' offense. They got in passing lanes, they contested shots. Even though it was because Felton got his second foul, the zone defense they played in the first half really bothered Illinois.

I was in school in 1993 when they won the last time. It's hard to describe what Franklin Street is like after a win like that. I'm just so happy for Roy Williams. The title seemed so elusive and yet, after only two years back home and with a team that he didn't even recruit, he got it. Go Heels!!!

NCAA Tourney

Well, UNC looked exceptional in the first round of the NCC tournament. I really thought they would get to the century mark, though. And, what happened to Kansas! That was crazy, but I'm not complaining because now UNC won't have to face them. Now, if only NC State can beat UConn...

UNC-Duke

Well, today is the UNC-Duke game. I don't think you can know how intense this rivalry is unless you've gone to one of these schools. There is more at stake today than just the pride of beating Duke, too. If we win, the we win the ACC regular season outright. I was reading on tarheelblue.com today that UNC hasn't won the regular season outright since the 1992-93 season. I was a junior that year and we won the national championship. Go Heels!

Sean May

Wow! Has Sean May finally started playing up to his potential or what? Where has this play been for the past two and a half years? Ever since the loss at Duke, May has been playing out of his mind. He had his 7th straight double-double in the Florida State game last night! Crazy.

With McCants out indefinitely, the other players have really stepped up their games. I actually feel pretty good about the Duke game this weekend, even if McCants doesn't play. Playing at home and with the way Sean May has performed, they should be able to win.

Go Hokies!

Having graduated from UNC, I tend to root for any team that is playing Duke in basketball. Tonight it's the new-to-the-ACC Virginia Tech Hokies. Go Hokies!

Turn Back the Clock

Tonight is "Turn Back the Clock" night on ESPN's coverage of the UNC/Virginia game. Tonight they are using the jerseys and television graphics from 1981. The announcers are also dressed in early 1980's attire. Len Elmore is even sporting an enormous afro!

By the way, I got to thinking....None of the students at the game were even born in 1981. In fact, I bet most of them weren't even born by 1985. Man, do I feel old.
